Sociology

The discipline of sociology was first introduced in the college with the establishment of college itself via office order no: 290 HE of 1994, Dated-01-07-1994. The department started with 17 students in the year 1994 and presently the department has an enrollment of around 600 students in various semesters. At present the department has only one faculty member. The department has started socio-club which tends to create a space/platform for its members to raise social issues.

The club already registered 130 students as its members and it has a vision to sensitize the wider pubic on vital social issues. Owing to the scarcity of water in Ladakh, the club has already conducted a short field work in Phyang village, which faces acute water shortage during the sowing session. This field work also helped students to understand the process of conducting empirical research by using various research methods and techniques. It helps the students integrate academic knowledge with application skills. In doing so, the students interviewed 64 farmers using interview schedule
